Position the drywall section in the opening, and use a helper to hold the new drywall in place. Install fasteners through the drywall into the wall or ceiling framing. You can use drywall nails or drywall screws. Screws are better because they cause much less damage to the internal structure of the drywall sheet during installation. Install fasteners every 9 inches on the perimeter, and every 12 inches in the field. If necessary, use a piece of plywood or one-by lumber for a backing and fastening surface behind any drywall edges that don't fall over framing.
Water damage is one of the most common causes of home insurance claims. According to ISO, Water damage claims are the second largest frequent insurance claim, following wind and hail damage. The percentage of claims due to water damage is also increasing, while other causes of damage have stayed fairly consistent or even decreased. Things get even more complicated when we look at the exceptions.
To prevent water damage, you should replace your washing machine supply hose at least once every five years. Also, resist the temptation to overload your washing machine. Constantly stuffing too many clothes into your washing machine could loosen gaskets and valves or cause cracks. Take good care of your washing machine and your washing machine will take good care of you.

The insurance company must start investigating your claim within 15 days after receiving written notice and may ask you for more information. Once you send the information, the insurance company has 15 business days to accept or reject your claim. If the insurance company says it will pay your claim, it must pay within five business days. If the insurance company rejects your claim, it must explain its reasons in writing.

The first order of business in assessing water damage to the electrical equipment in any industrial plant is to gather all pertinent drawings and documentation available and perform a walkthrough of the entire electrical infrastructure. However, at times, drawings and documentation may not be available due to destruction (Photo 1). In this case, walkthroughs must be performed through tribal knowledge of plant personnel. Keep in mind the initial assessment is preliminary in nature, and an absolute understanding of the damage will not be gained until the equipment is disassembled in its entirety.

Mold growth can be controlled on surfaces by cleaning with a non-ammonia detergent or pine oil cleaner and disinfecting with a 10% bleach solution. (Caution: Never mix ammonia and bleach products, as the resulting fumes can be highly toxic.) Always test this solution on a small area of the item or area you’re cleaning to be sure it doesn’t cause staining or fading. 
If you still do not understand why something isn't covered, and you think there is a chance for a review of your situation, don't be afraid to ask your agent or representative for a review or a second opinion. In a stressful situation like a claim, it is understandable that things may not be expressed clearly on either side. You want to make sure you understand fully.

Once you’ve pulled away wet materials and established holes or cuts in the wall as needed, you’ll typically need one air mover for every 15 – 25 square feet of floor, unless the moisture load and density is particularly high, then you may need more. To prevent mold, make sure all of the layers and materials are dry before putting everything back together.

Keep the basement dry as it's the most common place to find damage. Flooding, burst pipes, and even clogged gutters can cause leaks. Pitching the landscape, cleaning the gutters, and installing downspout extensions are simple outdoor fixes. From the inside, install a sump pump and water alarm. Have the basement inspected for waterproofing – or have some installed.
