In December, while over at my friend's house I heard an explosion and I didn't know what it was or what happened but I guess her pipes had frozen and that turned into a huge flood in her basement. Mark the damaged drywall with a pencil after you determine the area of drywall you want to remove. Use a straightedge to mark lines vertically and horizontally on the face of the drywall.
